- لكل عنصر علاقة حفظ مستقلة.\[\sum_{i\in L} n_i x_i = \sum_{j\in R} n_j x_j\]
- حفظ ذرات H: 2×a = 2×c.\[2\,a = 2\,c\]
توجد نسبة واحدة مستقلة للمعاملات؛ نضع c = 1 مؤقتًا، فتكون القيم: a = 1، b = 1/2، c = 1.\[a = 1,\quad b = \frac{1}{2},\quad c = 1\]
For English-language schools: how does this tool help?
Enter supported neutral chemical formulae. The method preserves subscripts and changes coefficients only, then verifies atom conservation. A balanced equation does not by itself establish that a reaction occurs or predict its conditions.
- Enter valid supported formulae separated into reactants and products.
- Follow the coefficient calculation and atom-count table.
- Do not infer reaction feasibility from balance alone.
What can you calculate with this tool?
- Balance a molecular equationFind integer coefficients conserving every element on both sides without changing chemical formulas.
A worked example: Balance a molecular equation
Given values
- Equation without coefficients: H2 + O2 -> H2O
The rule
- Each element has the same atom count in reactants and products. A coefficient multiplies the whole formula; do not change its subscripts.
- Each element has its own independent conservation relation.\[\sum_{i\in L} n_i x_i = \sum_{j\in R} n_j x_j\]
Worked solution
- Keep the formulas and their subscripts fixed; calculate only the coefficients placed before substances. The atom table compares both sides before and after balancing.
- Name coefficients in substance order: a before H2, b before O2, c before H2O.
- Conservation of H: 2×a = 2×c.\[2\,a = 2\,c\]
- Conservation of O: 2×b = c.\[2\,b = c\]
- Solve atom-conservation relations by algebraic elimination using exact fractions. There is one independent coefficient ratio; temporarily set c = 1, giving: a = 1, b = 1/2, c = 1.\[a = 1,\quad b = \frac{1}{2},\quad c = 1\]
- Multiply by the least common multiple of the denominators (2) to obtain the simplest positive integer coefficients.\[(2,\,1,\,2)\]
- Check H: before balancing 2 on the left and 2 on the right; afterwards 4 on each side.
- Check O: before balancing 2 on the left and 1 on the right; afterwards 2 on each side.
Check the result
- H: 4 = 4 atoms; conservation is satisfied.
- O: 2 = 2 atoms; conservation is satisfied.
- All coefficients are positive integers with greatest common divisor 1.
Balancing proves atom conservation only; it does not establish that the reaction occurs or specify its conditions.
The rule we use — English-language schools
The number of atoms of every element is the same in reactants and products. Change coefficients, never subscripts.
