For English-language schools: how does this tool help?
Specify the frame and model. Projectiles neglect air resistance, use constant gravity and may start above the landing surface. Projectile flight time, range and height: Enter launch speed, angle above horizontal and height above the landing surface; the equal-height range formula is not used for unequal heights. Relative velocity in two dimensions: Enter A and B velocity components in the same frame. Subtract B's velocity to find A's velocity relative to B. These educational calculators use explicitly bounded models. Each mode shows the rule, substitution, checks and limits. Atomic weights and physical constants are stated when used; chemical symbols and SI units are universal across study languages.
- Choose Arabic or English study language.
- Select a calculation goal and read the explanation beneath it.
- Enter data in the displayed units; load the example to see the input format.
- Calculate, then review the rule, substitution, checks and model conditions rather than copying the answer alone.
What can you calculate with this tool?
- Projectile flight time, range and heightEnter launch speed, angle above horizontal and height above the landing surface; the equal-height range formula is not used for unequal heights.
- Relative velocity in two dimensionsEnter A and B velocity components in the same frame. Subtract B's velocity to find A's velocity relative to B.
A worked example: Projectile flight time, range and height
Given values
- Launch speed: 20 m/s
- Launch angle above horizontal: 30 °
- Launch height above landing surface: 5 m
- Gravity magnitude: 9.8 m/s²
The rule
- Separate the motion: horizontal velocity is constant; vertical acceleration is −g. Solve launch height + vertical velocity × time − half gravity × time² = 0.\[v_x=v\cos\theta;\quad v_y=v\sin\theta;\quad y=h+v_yt-\tfrac12gt^2\]
Worked solution
- Calculate velocity components from the angle in degrees.\[20\cos(30^\circ)=17.320508075688775;\quad20\sin(30^\circ)=9.999999999999998\]
- Take the nonnegative root for reaching the landing surface.\[\frac{9.999999999999998+\sqrt{9.999999999999998^2+2\times9.8\times5}}{9.8}=2.4562497223949267\]
- Range = horizontal velocity × flight time; the vertical velocity is zero at the peak.\[17.320508075688775\times2.4562497223949267=42.54349315264964;\quad5+\frac{9.999999999999998^2}{2\times9.8}=10.102040816326529\]
Check the result
- Height is zero at landing within arithmetic precision; impact speed squared = launch speed squared + 2g × launch height.
No air resistance or changing gravity. Launch angle is 0°–90° and landing is on a horizontal y=0 surface.
The rule we use — English-language schools
Separate the motion: horizontal velocity is constant; vertical acceleration is −g. Solve launch height + vertical velocity × time − half gravity × time² = 0.
